Jeff BrockwayLife has been good to me. After graduation I pursued education for the ministry as planned. I entered a ministerial internship in 1971 and worked in this profession until 1984. During this time I spent more time in school than I planned, culminating in a doctorate in 1983. In 1984 Linda and I separated and I resigned my ministry in Utah. I moved back to Vancouver and went to work as a counselor and eventual director at the Counseling Center of Vancouver (1984 – 1989). During this time I earned a chemical Dependency credential and worked from 1989 until 1997 as Clinical Director of Alcohol, Drug and Gambling Treatment Programs. I married Janet in 1990 and we combined our families and even made a contribution of our own (Jeffrey) who is 7 (oh, and a-half!). My final gig in the “A&D field” was in the ill-fated Turnaround (Southwest Washington Medical Center’s Program) which closed in June 1997. At that time I went to work for Behavior Health Services at the Medical Center and now work as the Program Manager of Solutions Employee Assistance (1997 – present). I have also maintained a small private practice in counseling since 1986. I am currently involved in the County Commissioner’s Substance Abuse Advisory Board, serve as an Ambassador for the Greater Vancouver Chamber of Commerce, and work as Club Service Chair with the Camas-Washougal Rotary. I have managed to develop a couple of hobbies. I really enjoy weight training and riding my motorcycle. I won the National Bench Press Championship in 1996 and held the Washington and Oregon Bench Press records (424 ¼ and 440 ¾ , respectively). “I lift therefore I am!” My hobby the past few years has been to take some long distance motorcycle trips with Janet. We recently bought a used Gold Wing for these treks. Janet and I also hiked the Grand Canyon twice in 1998. I have not totally escaped the ministry. I work part-time as Young Adult Pastor at Rivercrest Community Church in Portland, Oregon. I live in Hazel Dell with my wife/partner, Janet. We have 6 children between us. Erin (25), Kelly (22), Beth (18), Jon (16), Josh (14), and Jeff (7 ½). Erin and Kelly are grown and gone. Erin brought her meteorologist husband into our family and Kelly has blessed us with our first grandchild, Josiah. Jon, Beth, and Jeff live with us. Life is good. |
